Iver C. Ranum
Ranum High School opened in the fall of 1962.
The school, with the nickname Raiders, was named after legendary educator and superintendent Iver Ranum who began teaching in the district in 1935 and was named superintendent in 1950. He remained in that position until 1976 steering the district through periods of growth and change. Iver was the heart and soul of the district and his legacy lives on through his family and its continuing commitment to the district. The Ranum Future Teachers Scholarship is offered to high school seniors with an interest in teaching or education.
Frederick Jarigese served as the school’s first principal providing steady, loving leadership for more than a decade.During the years that followed, Ranum High School became an athletic powerhouse while developing an intense rivalry with nearby Westminster High School. In September of 2010, with the opening of a state-of-the-art Westminster High School, Ranum High School transitioned to a middle school serving students grades 6 through 8. The school adopted the Knights as the school nickname, embracing purple and gold as the school colors.
