Westminster High School is set to host an exciting and innovative event that is sure to capture the imaginations of drone enthusiasts and curious onlookers alike. This Saturday, Dec. 9, the Westy gym will be a buzzing hub of aerial activity, as Westminster High School and Westy PD jointly present the first-ever Community Drone Day. The event promises to feature a wide range of activities, including fan-favorite drone soccer, surveillance demonstrations, virtual reality experiences, flight simulations and much more.
Westy CTE Aviation teacher Robbie Ferguson is the founder and organizer of the event in conjunction with the Westminster Police Department. “We are excited to get the entire community involved in this exciting immersion into aviation and aerospace.” He goes on to say, “Attendees will have a chance to have free hands-on experiences where they will get to test out some of the new tech.”
One of the standout features of this event is the opportunity for attendees to obtain their FAA (Federal Aviation Administration) Trust Certifications. CTE Administrator Lottie Wilson states, “There has been an explosion in drone technology careers. We need more pilots!”
Adding an exciting twist to the day's proceedings, drone soccer matches will be a highlight of the event. In the realm of technology and entertainment, virtual reality (VR) experiences will immerse visitors in the thrilling world of drone flight.The Westminster Fire Department will also be part of the festivities, showcasing flight simulations while Westy Police will demonstrate surveillance techniques.
Partners include Skills USA, Crew Concept, Drone U, Air Force JROTC, Westy Fire, Westy Police, FAA, Moss Photography and more! Audiences will be able to buy food concessions on-site.
The best part? This event is free and open to all ages! Whether you are new to drones or an experienced pilot, you won’t want to miss this event.
